Curatorial collaboration by Raquel Álvarez, Pablo Bernabé and Koré Escobar resulted in a splendid exhibition that draws from three bodies of artwork by the mid-career Latin American artist: Cartografía Interior, Actos de Fé and Re-Invento.

Congratulations to artist Tatiana Parcero, whose work was included in the exhibition, Our Selves: Photographs by Women Artists from Helen Kornblum, now on view (through fall 2022) at the Museum of Modern Art, NYC. The included work, Cartografía Interior #35 also welcomes Patrons at the Museum entrance with an empowering manifesto.

Tatiana Parcero in MoMA's Permanent Collection

Congratulations to Tatiana Parcero, whose early work, Cartografía Interior #36, 1996 has been accepted into the permanent collection of The Museum of Modern Art in New York. An honor for any artist, this news is especially meaningful for Parcero, who studied in New York. The photograph was a gift of collector Helen Kornblum in honor of curator Roxana Marcoci. This work from Parcero’s Cartografia Interior series was executed as the contemporary Mexican photographer was completing her education at New York University / International Center of Photography.

Over time, she has expanded the scope of her investigations, using her face, her torso, her hands, even the souls of her feet, as the basis of "maps" on which to explore "concepts of identity, memory, territory and time . . . the relationship between man and Earth, between nature and the body."  The images that she incorporates . . . are what she calls "visual metaphors" relating to some of the most pressing issues of our time: climate change, dwindling natural resources and migration.

Enjoy this virtual walkthrough of Revolution & Ritual at Scripp's College Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery.  The exhibition is part of the Getty Initiative Pacific Standard Time, and will be on view through January 7, 2018.  An exhibition catalogue accompanied the exhibition, which juxtaposes and puts into dialogue three generations of female Mexican artists: Sara Castrejón, Graciela Iturbide and Tatiana Parcero.
