This image of the Capitol Building in Washington DC by Thomas Kellner was made in 2004. The German artist is celebrated for his unique approach to image making. Kellner uses 35 mm film strips to depict the whole subject, shot piece by piece, frame by frame. Recomposed in the darkroom as a contact print, this photograph is crisp and dynamic. Kellner’s work is in dialog with construction/deconstruction, histories of cubism and the practice of cataloging. His work is in numerous public collections, the Art Institute of Chicago, Library of Congress, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston among others.
